Helping Hands of Aiken is teaming up with a national non-profit to offer grief support to foster kids.
“Grief has impacted them a lot,” Volunteer Coordinator and Outreach Advocate Shi’Tavia Johnson said.
Helping Hands, Inc. is partnering with Dougy Center to launch the L.Y.G.H.T. program in Aiken.
Youth in foster care get support, addressing often overlooked grief experiences. “When youth sometimes move from county to county, they move their placements. You’ve made these friends, you go to the school, you build these relationships, and then you’re, you’re transitioned to a whole new reality,” L.Y.G.H.T. Program National Director Dr. Monique Mitchell added.
